Akhirnya Sony mengumumkan keberadaan sosok teranyar mereka dalam wujud Android phone. Melepas embel-embel Ericsson, Sony mencoba eksis dengan melepas dua ponsel terbarunya untuk segmen kelas atas bernama Sony Xperia Ion dan Sony Xperia S. Keduanya telah hadir di ajang CES 2012 bulan Januari lalu.





Adapun perbedaan mencolok diantara keduanya adalah Sony Xperia S tidak dibekali dengan jaringan LTE seperti halnya Xperia Ion. Serta dengan ukuran layar lebih kecil dibanding Ion, sehingga dampaknya kapasitas baterainya pun lebuh kecil dimana Xperia S ditanamkan baterai 1750 mAh dan 1900 mAh untui Xperia Ion. Begitu pula dari sektor media simpan.





Xperia S hanya berbekal memori internal 16 dan 32 GB, sedangkan Ion dibekali dengan memori 16GB plus slot memori eksternal sampai 32GB. Sementara itu spesifikasi lainnya terbilang mirip, pengguna bisa menemukan prosesor 1.5 GHz dual-core, HDMI output, Sony BRAVIA Mobile Engine, NFC serta dukungan untuk video H 1080p.



Fitur unggulan lainnya sudah jelas yakni kamera 12 Megapiksel yang merupakan teratas di jajaran smartphone (kecuali Nokia 808 PureView yang punya resolusi tidak wajar, 41 Megapiksel). Bahkan kamera depannya mampu membidik ukuran 1.3 MP plus rekam video 720p@30fps. Kedua ponsel ini menjalankan Androd v2.3.7 (Gingerbread) dan sudah dibekali dengan versi terbaru dari UI Timescape. Namun di kuartal kedua, Android ICS sepertinya sudah dapat dinikmati olehnya.



Sebagai ponsel premium untuk kelaa atas, Sony memberikan akses hiburan ke Sony Entertainment Network, yang fokus pada musik dan film. Sepertinya ponsel ini layak menjadi awal yang baik untuk masa depan Sony sebagai pemain ponsel besar.
